About Position

We're looking for a dynamic and creative individual to join our small but growing team of passionate individuals championing Asian voices in the media landscape. Kontinentalist is an editorial studio that tells data- and map-driven stories. Our focus is on Asia and our mission is to enhance the region’s voice in the global narrative. We are currently looking for an editor to join our small editorial team to look after day-to-day editing tasks and guide the writing team in their work.

What the job entails

  • Carry out Kontinentalist’s editorial processes which includes mechanical editing, fact-checking, partial re-writing or providing feedback to writers on rewriting, and content editing
  • Work closely with writers to help refine story topics, themes, and perspectives to appropriately convey Kontinentalist’s vision and mission
  • Ensure consistency in written quality, tone of voice, and ensure that general editorial guidelines are followed in all published materials
  • Plan and execute editorial content in collaboration with the wider editorial team
  • To maintain and manage the editorial calendar, ensuring that all deadlines are met, and to work closely with the other team members to ensure a balanced publishing schedule
  • To coordinate closely with the marketing team on consistency of materials that are published on all social media channels
  • To work closely with the partnerships team on any partner- or client-driven projects
  • Work closely with the design team to ensure that the editorial team is following all design-related SOPs and workflows

What we are looking for

  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in writing and/or editing
  • Passionate about storytelling, especially stories about Asia that gives contextual understanding
  • A keen observer of current affairs and interest in unique perspectives and angles
  • Interested in new digital storytelling techniques
  • At minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with data visualisations (bonus)
  • As you will be working with a diverse team of coders/developers, designers and other writers, it is crucial for you to be an effective communicator and someone who is good at working collaboratively.
